Reaching out for help

It is the hardest thing a addict who wishes to recover can do – to reach out for help. As addicts we are self sufficient closed secretive systems. To break the silence of the addiction, to reach out for the help of others while in the addictive cycle and later to do that BEFORE entering yet another addictive cycle, is one of the hallmarks of recovery. Another is entering the room.

we have many callers but few show to a meeting. Many call seeking help thinking it maybe a phone call or a pill or a few works which will make this overpowering addiction cease. There is, alas, no such easy path. The phone, a 10,000 pound weight is hard to pick up to make the first call, to contact to reach out for help to say ” I think I am a Sex and Love Addict”.

Newcomers sometimes think of this as admitting a failure. Nothing could be further from the truth. Indeed the courage it takes to pick up the phone, the courage to make the contact the courage to admit to another that you might have this addiction — THAT’s courage, not failure.

As you think about picking up the phone, remember 100’s and 1000’s before you have trod this road, its a hard road, but one with the footsteps of many sucesfully recovered Sex and Love Addicts. Although we are recovered we continue to go to meetings, reinforce our conscious contact with our higher power, look for guidance and sustenance from a power greater than ourselves.

If you think you may have this problem, come, join us. Call now.
